Ainara Vera, born in Pamplona in 1985, is a Spanish documentary filmmaker and editor. She studied Audiovisual Communication at the University of Navarra and completed a master's degree in Creative Documentary Filmmaking at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. Her feature film debut POLARIS (2022, directed by Ainara Vera) is a touching documentary about two sisters who live in geographically and emotionally contrasting worlds. Captain Hayat navigates the Arctic, far away from people and her past in France. When her sister Leila has a baby in the south of France, her world changes. The film premiered in the ACID section at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and has been praised for its profound narrative style and impressive visual language. Prior to POLARIS, Vera made short films such as Sertres (2014), which screened at the Locarno Film Festival, and See You Tomorrow, God Willing! (2017), which was shown at IDFA. She also worked as first assistant director and editor on Viktor Kossakovsky's films Aquarela and Gunda. In addition, she is active as a project tutor in the documentary film master's program at Pompeu Fabra University.
