Born in Berlin in 1983, Axel Ranisch is a versatile German filmmaker. He completed his directing studies at the Babelsberg Film University with the multi-award-winning feature film "Dicke Mädchen" (Heavy Girls, 2011), which, like many of his works, relies on improvisation. His body of work includes the feature film "Ich fühl mich Disco" (I Feel Like Disco, 2013) and the experimental "Tatort: Babbeldasch" (2017). In addition to his work as an opera director and author, Ranisch has received multiple awards for his film projects, such as the Grimme Award for the television film "Für den Aufbruch" (For the Departure).
