Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1985, Elene Naveriani first studied painting before completing film studies at HEAD in Geneva. In their cinematic work, the filmmaker often explores queer perspectives and the lives of outsiders in Georgian society. Their feature film "Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry" (2023) premiered at the Quinzaine des Cinéastes in Cannes and won numerous awards, including the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Film at the Sarajevo Film Festival and the Golden Eye at the Zurich Film Festival. Their earlier work "Wet Sand" (2021) also gained international recognition and was awarded at the Locarno Film Festival.
