The French director and screenwriter Emmanuel Finkiel began his career as an assistant director for filmmakers like Krzysztof Kieślowski after studying at the La Fémis film school. His feature film debut, *Voyages* (1999), received multiple accolades, including the César Award for Best First Feature Film and the Prize of the Youth at the Cannes Film Festival. For the drama *A Decent Man* (2015), he was awarded the prestigious Jean Vigo Prize. His directorial work *Memoir of War* (2017), based on a work by Marguerite Duras, was nominated for eight César Awards and was selected as the French entry for the Academy Awards.
