Emmanuelle Bercot (born November 6, 1967 in Paris) is a French actress, director, and screenwriter. She studied at the La Fémis film school and established herself early on both in front of and behind the camera. She made her international breakthrough as an actress with roles in arthouse productions and as a director with intense dramas that often deal with social issues. As an actress, she appeared in THE ENEMY (2020, directed by Stephan Streker), in which she played the role of Béatrice Rondas. The film deals with the case of a politician who comes under suspicion after the mysterious death of his wife and has been presented at international festivals. Her best-known films also include Polisse (2011, directed by Maïwenn), for which she received the César Award for Best Screenplay, and Mon roi (2015, directed by Maïwenn), for which she was awarded Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival. As a director, she directed Standing Tall (2015), which opened the Cannes Film Festival, and Peaceful (2021), in which she once again starred. Bercot has won numerous awards: in addition to the Best Actress award at Cannes in 2015, she won the Prix du Scénario for Polisse and was nominated for several Césars. She is now considered one of the most important voices in French auteur cinema and impresses with her versatility as both an actress and a director.
