Garance Marillier
Actor
Garance Marillier is a French actress who, with her powerful performances and emotional intensity, has become one of the most remarkable young talents in European cinema. Born in Paris in 1998, she began her career as a musician before attracting attention with her first short films and her collaboration with director Julia Ducournau. She made her breakthrough in 2016 with the multi-award-winning feature film Raw (directed by Julia Ducournau), in which she played the lead role of Justine. The film premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival and brought Marillier international recognition. In POMPEI (2019, directed by Anna Falguères and John Shank), she shows another facet of her acting skills. The minimalist drama tells the story of two brothers who live in a deserted area until a woman appears and upsets the balance of their fragile world. Marillier embodies her character with quiet intensity, lending the story an emotional depth that forms the core of the film. Her other notable works include Titane (2021, directed by Julia Ducournau), which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, as well as Junior (2011, also directed by Julia Ducournau) and It's Not a Cowboy Movie (2012, directed by Benjamin Parent). These films characterize a body of work that is distinguished by its bold choice of themes, physicality, and psychological complexity. Garance Marillier has established herself as an actress with an extraordinary selection of projects, consistently taking on roles that challenge boundaries and question social expectations. She is considered one of the most interesting voices in contemporary French cinema.
