Gérard Jugnot has been one of the central figures in French cinema since the 1970s. His career began with the legendary comedy troupe Le Splendid, which produced works such as Les Bronzés, Les Bronzés font du ski, and Le Père Noël est une ordure. These productions shaped the tone of French cinema comedy for years and made Jugnot known to a wide audience. He developed a versatile career as an actor and director. With Pinot simple flic, Une époque formidable... and Monsieur Batignole, he established himself both in front of and behind the camera. He achieved particular acclaim with Les Choristes, in which he played the role of Clément Mathieu, creating one of his most famous characters. At the same time, he appeared in popular entertainment films such as Boudu, C'est beau la vie quand on y pense, and Spoiled Brats. Jugnot was also present on television, including in productions such as Merlin, Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves, and Asterix & Obelix. His range extends from comedies to family adventures to dramatic roles. More recent films such as The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir show that he continues to be part of major French audience productions. In the series LOVE IS ALL (original title Besoin d'amour, 2023, directed by Frédéric Hazan), Jugnot plays the character Peter Dargo. The six-part production was realized as an OCS Signature series and combines romantic comedy with social issues. Gérard Jugnot has been nominated for several César Awards for his performances, including for Une époque formidable... and Les Choristes.
