Gudrun Ritter (born November 16, 1936 in Marienberg, Ore Mountains) is a German actress with an outstanding career in film and television in the GDR and beyond. After gaining initial experience in theater, she began working for DEFA productions in the 1960s and quickly established herself as a defining figure of the East German genre. A well-known film in which she appeared is FERIEN (2007, directed by Thomas Arslan), in which she plays the role of a seriously ill mother. Based on soberly observed images, the film depicts a family situation that threatens to fall apart over the course of a summer. In the DEFA drama JADUP UND BOEL (originally completed in 1980, premiered in 1988, directed by Rainer Simon), Gudrun Ritter plays the character Barbara. The film was banned for a long time and only released shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall. With them, it is part of important GDR film history that critically examines historical themes. Gudrun Ritter has played many memorable roles on television, including long-running appearances in Polizeiruf 110 and Tatort, as well as in series such as In aller Freundschaft, Kommissarin Louise Boni, and Das letzte Wort. Her presence has shaped German television for decades. Despite her extensive work in acting, no international awards have been documented. However, her versatility and consistency make her achievements an essential part of German film and television history.
