Hark Bohm
Actor
Hark Bohm, born on May 18, 1939, in Hamburg-Othmarschen and raised on Amrum, is a German actor, director, screenwriter, producer, and professor emeritus of film. His first feature film was Tschetan, der Indianerjunge (1973), and he later made a name for himself with socially critical arthouse films such as Nordsee ist Mordsee. He played an architecture professor in the comedy NICHT NICHTS OHNE DICH (1985, directed by Pia Frankenberg) – a satirical reflection on everyday urban life and bureaucracy. In ROLAND KLICK – THE HEART IS A HUNGRY HUNTER (1972, directed by Roland Klick), he appeared as an actor in the action-packed road movie, which has achieved cult status in New German Cinema. He made his contribution to documentary reflection with DIE SINFONIE DER UNGEWISSHEIT (198?), a work that deals with existential questions in times of social upheaval. In addition to his film work, Bohm was co-founder of the Filmverlag der Autoren (1971) and professor of film at the University of Hamburg. He made socially relevant films for children and young people, such as Moritz, lieber Moritz and Yasemin. His screenplay for Aus dem Nichts (2017) was honored with the German Film Award, and he received an honorary award for his life's work. Hark Bohm stands for a multifaceted, committed body of work in German cinema – as a filmmaker, thinker, and mentor of a cross-generational arthouse aspiration.
