Hermann Beyer is a German actor who has appeared in over 160 film and television productions since the mid-1960s. His versatility makes him one of Germany's best-known character actors. A significant work in his career is TREFFEN IN TRAVERS (1988, directed by Michael Gwisdek), in which he played Georg Forster. In 2015, he starred in HOMESICK, directed by Jakob M. Erwa, an intense psychological drama that received international attention. In DER TANGOSPIELER (1991, directed by Roland Gräf), he played Dr. Berger in a film adaptation of Christoph Hein's novel, which dealt with political persecution in the GDR. Beyer also appeared in numerous other films. One of his early roles was in the DEFA production Karla (1965, directed by Herrmann Zschoche). He appeared in one of the most internationally renowned DEFA films, Jakob the Liar (1974, directed by Frank Beyer). This was followed by “Die Architekten” (1990, directed by Peter Kahane), which also made him known to a younger audience. On television, he gave convincing performances in series such as “Polizeiruf 110” and “Tatort,” where he was regularly cast in memorable supporting roles. He also had a striking supporting role in “Good Bye, Lenin!” (2003, directed by Wolfgang Becker). Most recently, he appeared in the Netflix series “Dark” (2017) as Helge Doppler. Hermann Beyer received several awards for his performances. In 2007, he was awarded the German Film Prize for Best Supporting Actor, followed in 2017 by the German Film Prize Honorary Award for his life's work. These honors underscore his importance to German cinema.
