The actor Michael Altmann (1943–2016) was a versatile performer whose career spanned major theater stages and numerous film and television productions. His stage career led him to renowned institutions such as the Schiller Theater, the Berliner Ensemble, and the Vienna Burgtheater. He is remembered by a broad cinema audience for his repeated collaborations with director Werner Herzog, for example in *Stroszek* (1977) and the documentary *My Best Fiend* (1999). The character actor also appeared in the Oscar-winning drama *The Counterfeiters* (2007).
