Michelle Barthel (born July 30, 1993 in Remscheid) is a versatile German actress who has attracted considerable attention in both film and television. She played her first film role in the children's film Der zehnte Sommer (2003), which laid the foundation for her career. In 2009, she played the teenager Becky in the social drama Keine Angst (Don't Be Afraid), a role that earned her several prestigious awards, including the Grimme Prize, the German Television Award (Promotion Prize), and the FIPA D'Or for Best International Actress. This was followed by numerous appearances in popular television crime series such as Tatort, Polizeiruf 110, and Ein starkes Team. In 2013, Barthel played her first leading role in the highly acclaimed film adaptation of the novel Spieltrieb, in which she portrayed the schoolgirl Ada – a performance that was praised by critics as “great leading actress.” She was also part of the ensemble cast of the Netflix series Wir sind die Welle and other film and TV productions such as Der Boden unter den Füßen. An impressive addition to her portfolio is the short film CHAINED (2018), in which she plays the role of Ari – a story set in a devastated landscape in which her character fights for survival in the midst of a conflict.
