Born in Istanbul in 1959, Nuri Bilge Ceylan is a Turkish director, screenwriter, and photographer, considered one of the most distinctive filmmakers in auteur cinema. His works are characterized by long takes, a contemplative narrative pace, and the exploration of existential themes and complex interpersonal relationships. He gained international recognition, particularly at the Cannes Film Festival, where he has received numerous awards. For his film *Winter Sleep* (2014), he was awarded the Palme d'Or, after having already won the Best Director award for *Three Monkeys* (2008) and the Grand Prix for *Distant* (2002). His most recent work, *About Dry Grasses* (2023), was also screened in competition at Cannes.
