Rummelsnuff, whose real name is Roger Baptist, is a German musician, composer, and actor. He became famous for his combination of physical performance and electro-style sea shanties, which made him a cult figure in the queer scene and a prominent face in music videos, short films, and cinema productions. Parallel to his music career, he regularly works in front of the camera, combining his stage persona with idiosyncratic film characters. DESIRE WILL SET YOU FREE (2015, directed by Yony Leyser) plays a central role in his filmography. In this Berlin portrait, which is somewhere between a feature film and docufiction, Rummelsnuff appears as himself and represents the connection between club culture, underground music, and the queer community. He also appears as Eddie Mucky in the independent feature film BACK TO NOTHING (2016, directed by Miron Zownir); this radical portrait of the city tells the story of marginal figures in a run-down Berlin and relies on an ensemble of striking characters, including Rummelsnuff. He is the subject of his own cinematic portrait in the short documentary Rummelsnuff (2012, directed by Rosa von Praunheim), which shows him as a muscleman and cult figure of the gay scene. He also appears in other productions, such as Kino Karlshorst and the comedy Morgen, ihr Luschen! Der Ausbilder-Schmidt-Film. As a composer and soundtrack provider, Rummelsnuff is also involved in international titles such as Ava's Possessions. In this way, he combines his music with acting roles and remains an unmistakable figure at the intersection of subculture, queer cinema, and German independent film.
