Sandra Prechtel is a German director, screenwriter and author known for her documentary portraits of artists as well as historically and socially engaged subjects. She studied literature, film studies and political science in Munich, London and Berlin, and began her career as a freelance writer before turning to filmmaking. Her documentary work combines biographical research with a personal, reflective approach and a strong sense of political context. Among her notable films are Roland Klick – The Heart Is a Hungry Hunter (2013), a portrait of the German filmmaker, and Einar Schleef – I Found No Germany (2026), a cinematic exploration of the life and work of theatre artist Einar Schleef. Prechtel’s films are marked by sensitivity, analytical depth and a respectful engagement with their subjects.
