Vincent Rottiers is one of the most versatile actors in French cinema. Born in Dijon in 1986, he already attracted attention as a teenager with his intense performances in socially conscious dramas. His career began in the early 2000s with roles in coming-of-age films, before he quickly established himself as a fixture in European arthouse cinema. In POMPEI (2019, directed by Anna Falguères and John Shank), he plays the character Toxou—a young man who vacillates between loyalty, longing, and survival in a desolate landscape. The film, which was presented at the Berlin International Film Festival, captivates with its minimalist visual language and Rottiers' impressive physical presence. An important career highlight was his role in Dheepan (2015, directed by Jacques Audiard), which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. He was equally convincing in Renoir (2012, directed by Gilles Bourdos), a poetic drama about art, war, and family, as well as in L'Apollonide – House of Pleasure (2011, directed by Bertrand Bonello), which was in competition at Cannes. Other well-known works include Le Passé (2013, directed by Asghar Farhadi) and Nocturama (2016, directed by Bertrand Bonello), which underscore his versatility and flair for challenging material. Vincent Rottiers has been nominated for several César Awards, including Best Young Actor. With his uncompromising choice of roles and unmistakable intensity, he represents modern French character cinema – between social reality, existential depth, and artistic risk.
