Another World

Original title: Andere Welt

Behind barbed wire, retina scanners and iron bars, women who are considered dangerous due to mental illness live in a psychiatry clinic - awarded the Marlies Hesse Prize. Patients in here have committed punishable crimes under the influence of mental illness. Instead of going to a regular prison, they are interred (involuntarily) in this psychiatric hospital. Here they will remain indefinitely - until they are no longer considered dangerous. The film focuses on three patients as well as three nurses of the women's ward whose daily routine is dictated by a strict set of rules. Pfafferott describes the everyday life and interactions of the two groups under the permanent observation of surveillance cameras, which she skilfully weaves into the cinematic experience.
