Never-before-seen insights into the work of Federico Fellini, the grand master of Italian cinema.

Never-before-seen insights into the work of Federico Fellini, the grand master of Italian cinema.

A must-see for Fellini fans: between 1976 and 1986, Federico Fellini granted exclusive access to the filming of his movies. Castronuovo documented intimate moments on the sets of “La città delle donne,” “E la nave va,” and “Ginger e Fred.” These unique recordings were hidden in the archives of the Cineteca Nazionale for decades. Silvia Giulietti has now compiled this material into a fascinating documentary film.

FELLINOPOLIS is a tribute to the creative universe of the Italian director. The film combines Castronuovo's archive material with current interviews with Fellini's closest collaborators, including Oscar winners Dante Ferretti, Maurizio Millenotti, and Nicola Piovani. Lina Wertmüller, Norma Giacchero, and the cinematographer himself also have their say. The documentary offers a rare insight into Fellini's working methods and the atmosphere in the legendary Studio 5 of the Cinecittà Studios.

FELLINOPOLIS premiered at the Festa del Cinema di Roma in 2020 and has since been shown at numerous international festivals, including the Sofia International Film Festival, the Krakow Film Festival, and the Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente. At the Italian Contemporary Film Festival in Toronto, the film was awarded the prize for best documentary. A must-see for anyone who wants to rediscover Fellini's cinematic legacy.
