A feverish Schlingensief documentary by renowned editor Bettina Böhler, portraying this exceptional artist in his full range - with Tilda Swinton.

With his "Heimatfilmen," his performances and interventions in theater, television, opera and art, director Christoph Schlingensief has helped shape cultural and political discourse in Germany for over two decades. In her masterfully edited and immensely entertaining directorial debut, renowned film editor Bettina Böhler portrays this exceptional artist in his entire spectrum.

The film focuses Schliingensief as a typical "family person", whose work is equally devoted to his interpersonal relationship with his parents in Oberhausen and to his relationship with Germany. The film traces Schlingensief's evolution: from a young filmmaker in an artistic frenzy to a theatre rebel in Berlin and Bayreuth, to a best-selling author who, shortly before his death, was invited to design the German Pavilion in Venice.

Between the digested Ossis in DAS DEUTSCHE KETTENSÄGENMASSAKER, "Tötet Helmut Kohl" (documenta X) and the attempt to save Wagner (PARSIFAL), SCHLINGENSIEF – A VOICE THAT SHOOK THE SILENCE becomes the expression of a tireless and inexhaustible love-hate relationship with Germany, its high culture and its petit bourgeoisie, in which Schlingensief has always positioned himself first and foremost.

The film also shows important inspirations and companions of Schlingensief, such as Christoph Schlingensief, Tilda Swinton, Udo Kier, Corinna Harfouch, Hildegard Knef, and Helge Schneider.
