As a clown duo, ‘Illi & Olli’ lived the dream at Circus Roncalli. Until reality caught up with them.
As a clown duo, ‘Illi & Olli’ lived the dream at Circus Roncalli. Until reality caught up with them.
In 1985, Ulrike and Olli's paths cross in the dazzling world of Circus Roncalli. It is the beginning of a great love affair with many obstacles.
He is a clown living his childhood dream; she is a former nurse from Berlin who joins the circus.
What begins as a romantic adventure gradually turns into a story about the challenges of everyday life, creative crises, and growing older.
In his documentary film I SHOULD HAVE HELD ON TO THE CHANDELIER, released in 2020, director Diego Hauenstein sensitively portrays the lives of his parents. The film combines documentary elements with staged scenes in which Ulrike and Olli play themselves. This approach provides a deep insight into their relationship, their artistic collaboration, and the balance between family and career.
Produced at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, this moving portrait of an artist couple who go through life together despite all adversities.
